1. Genomic Sequencing Division
The Genomics Sequencing Division provides an array of services such as diagnosis through whole gene sequence, genotyping specific mutation and DNA polymorphism, detection of specific pathogens, oligonucleotide design and synthesis, DNA extraction, and nuclear and mitochondrial DNA forensic analysis.
As one of the Center's core operations, the Divison has decoded thousands of patients for several genes causing genetic diseases.
The Genomics Sequencing Division is comprised of the following laboratories:
DNA Sequencing Lab
The DNA Sequencing Lab utilizes automated Sanger sequencing method and is currently equipped with two 310 Genetic Analyzers, two 16-Capillary 3130 XL Genetic Analyzers , and several instruments for routine PCR, Gel Electrophoresis and Gel Documentation.
DNA Synthesis Lab
The DNA Synthesis Lab is equipped with ASM-800 DNA synthesizer and reverse phase OPS-201 purification system, which enable the synthesis of HPLC grade, high quality, oligonucleotide primers for research and diagnostics applications.
DNA Extraction Lab
Molecular extraction technologies for DNA and RNA are available for almost all types of samples such as amniotic fluid, chronic villus samples, and cultured cells, among others. The Center's DNA Extraction Lab is fully-equipped with the latest approved DNA extraction protocols and standard operating procedures that ensure the highest DNA quality, concentration and purity. The Lab follows the College of American Pathologists (CAP) regulations in sample requisition, receiving, handling and storage.
DNA Forensics Lab
The DNA Forensic Lab maintains its forensics investigations uniqueness in Jordan because of its capability to sequence the mitochondrial DNA control region, HV1 and HV2, in cases where the nuclear DNA is absent. Our Lab utilizes the Short Tandem Repeats (STRs) scanning together with the mitochondrial DNA sequencing to help support various types of investigations. One of the Center's most prominent achievements is having its Forensics Lab officially recognized by Jordanian courts.
