أطلقت مؤسسة الأميرة عالية مشروعًا للسيطرة على الكلاب الضالة المحلية في معان من خلال تنظيم النسل الحيواني (ABC). تم تنظيم هذا الحدث من قبل الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية USAID وكلية الطب البيطري في الجامعة بالتعاون بالإضافة الى جمعية الحيوانات الصغيرة للأطباء البيطريين الأردنيين والأطباء البيطريين في محافظة معان بدعم مالي من مؤسسة سبيرز الأمريكية.

أجرى الأطباء البيطريون المشاركون إلى جانب طلاب كلية الطب البيطري الذين اشرف عليهم الأستاذ الدكتور زهير بني إسماعيل والدكتورة كانانس ويمبيش من كتيبة الجيش الأمريكي البيطرية العديد من العمليات الجراحية لتحديد النسل للحيوان الضالة التي تم جمعها من المحافظة. كما أكدت دعوة محافظ معان لهذا الحدث صدق الحكومة لإيجاد حل إنساني وعملي للمشكلة المتفاقمة للحيوانات الضالة.

وأشاد عميد كلية الطب البيطري الأستاذ الدكتور محمد خليفة بالدور الذي تلعبه مؤسسة الأميرة عالية في إطلاق هذا المشروع الذي يهدف إلى تعزيز التفاعل بين الجامعة والمجتمع المحلي، وتعزيز ثقافة رعاية الحيوان وتطوير المسؤولية الاجتماعية وروح التطوع لدى الطلبة. كما أعلن أن الجامعة قامت بتبني فكرة هذا المشروع للسيطرة على مشكلة الكلاب الضالة في الحرم الجامعي والتي بدأت منذ العام 2017 ، وأكد على سعي الكلية للتوسع في جميع أنحاء المملكة من أجل إيجاد حل مستدام لهذه المشكلة. وأشار إلى أن التعاون النشط بين المؤسسات الأكاديمية والعالمية ومؤسسات المجتمع المدني والقطاع الخاص والدعم المستمر من مؤسسة الأميرة عالية هو مفتاح النجاح في المستقبل لمثل هذا المشروع.

Princess Alia Foundation launched a project to control local stray dogs in Maan by Animal Birth control (ABC). The event was organized by United States Agency for International Development USAID and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Jordan University of Science and Technology in collaboration with veterinarians from the small animals Association of Jordanian Veterinarians and Ma'an governorate veterinarians with financial support from American spear Foundation.

The participated veterinarians along with veterinary college students supervised by Professor Zuhir Bani Ismail and Dr. Candance Wimbish from US Army Battalion Veterinarian conducted several animal birth control surgical procedures for these stray animals. The Ma'an Governor's support and invitation to the event confirmed the government's willingness to find a humane and practical solution to the growing problem of stray animals.

The Dean of the Veterinary Medicine College Professor Mohammad Khalifeh praised the role played by Princess Alia Foundation in initiating this project which aims to enhance the interaction between the university and the local community, promote the culture of animal welfare and develop the social responsibility and volunteer spirit of the students. He also announced that the University has adapted the idea of this project to control the problem of stray dogs on campus, which began in 2017, and stressed the college's efforts to expand throughout the Kingdom to find a sustainable solution to this problem. He pointed out that active cooperation among academic and international institutions, civil society institutions, the private sector and the continuous support of Princess Alia Foundation is the key to the future success of such a project.
