The Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine was established in 1985. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine emerged as a single entity in 1990. It is the only Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Jordan. The Faculty plays a significant role in improving animal health and production in the country. The first group of undergraduate students was enrolled in 1989 and graduated after the five year course in 1994. The first group of graduate students was enrolled in the two year master program in 1996. A one year clinical diploma was added to the graduate program in 2001.
The faculty has three departments, namely; the Department of Basic Veterinary Medical Sciences, the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and the Department of Pathology and Public Health. In addition, to Veterinary Health Center (VHC) that provides clinical training and veterinary services to the local community. The Faculty is furnished with research laboratories serving the different veterinary disciplines.
The faculty is an active member of the Arab Association of Veterinary Medical Faculties and houses its office. Furthermore, the faculty has many scientific ties and cooperative treaties with many Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, private institutions, international scientific agencies and organizations world-wide.
