Instructions for Teaching Grants for Graduate Students at Jordan University of Science and Technology
Article (1): These regulations shall be known as the Graduate Scholarship Regulations for postgraduate students at Jordan University of Science and Technology, and shall come into effect from the commencement of the academic year 2017/2018.
Article (2): The following terms, as used herein, shall have the meanings ascribed to them unless the context indicates otherwise:
University: Jordan University of Science and Technology.
Council: The council of the Graduate Studies College.
Dean: The dean of the Graduate Studies College.
College: Any college of the university.
Department: The department within which the student's specialization is studied.
College Committee: The Graduate Studies Committee at the college.
Department Committee: The Graduate Studies Committee at the department.
Article (3): Teaching grants are provided to graduate students in Master's and Doctoral programs under the following conditions:
- The student must have completed a minimum of six credited hours for Master's students.
- The student's cumulative GPA must not be less than (3.00).
- The student must be full-time, enrolled, and attending regularly in the program they are enrolled in.
- The student must not have received any disciplinary penalties during their tenure at the university.
Article (4): The teaching grant consists of a monthly allowance of (150) Jordanian Dinars for Master's students and (500) Jordanian Dinars for doctoral students, in addition to exempting the student from the fees for the registered credit hours in the semester in which the grant is received. This is provided in exchange for the student undertaking a teaching load assigned by the department and approved by the council.
Article (5):
- Teaching grants are provided for a single academic semester, with the possibility of renewal for up to three semesters for Master's degree students, five semesters for students pursuing a Master's degree in Dentistry, and seven semesters for doctoral candidates.
- The council, upon recommendation from the department committee and approval from the college committee, may award a full teaching grant to a doctoral student starting from their first semester in the doctoral program.
- In cases where the required number of graduate students meeting the criteria outlined in Article (3/a, b) and Article (5/b) is not met, the council may grant a teaching scholarship to a Master's student in their first semester of enrollment in exchange for their completion of assigned teaching duties by the department.
Article (6):
- The council shall determine the number of teaching grants for each department at least one month prior to the commencement of each academic semester, based on recommendations from the department committee and approvals from the college committee, taking into consideration the department's demand for graduate student work.
- The council shall finalize the list of students awarded teaching grants within the first three weeks of the academic semester, based on recommendations from the department committee and approvals from the college committee. This shall include specifying the teaching responsibilities assigned to the selected students.
Article (7): The council determines the standards of competition among students concerning their cumulative GPA, the number of completed credit hours, and the methodology for calculating teaching duties for students who have been awarded teaching grants across various departments and colleges of the university.
Article (8): A doctoral student is appointed as a teaching assistant throughout the academic semesters in which they are enrolled in mandatory and elective courses. Additionally, they are appointed as a research assistant during the semester in which they are enrolled in thesis credits.
Article (9): The council oversees the student's fulfillment of the assigned teaching duties through regular reports submitted by the head of the relevant department to the dean.
Article (10): The teaching grant cannot be combined with any other scholarship or monthly salary in any form except retirement benefits for Master's students. If a doctoral student receives another full scholarship, they forfeit their entitlement to the program grant. However, if the student receives another scholarship covering only tuition fees, they may be assigned a teaching load within the department in exchange for a monthly stipend.
Article (11):
- Teaching grants are awarded to top-performing students within their department or college at the Bachelor's level from the Jordan University of Science and Technology, starting from their first semester in the Master's program. The allocation is based on the following criteria:
- Teaching grants are provided if the graduating cohort consists of (50) students or fewer.
- Teaching grants are provided if the graduating cohort consists of (51) to (100) students.
- Teaching grants are provided if the graduating cohort consists of (101) to (150) students.
- Teaching grants are provided if the graduating cohort consists of (151) to (200) students.
- Teaching grants are provided if the graduating cohort exceeds (200) students.
- The student must have achieved a minimum of "Good" in their Bachelor's degree GPA.
- The student must enroll in a graduate program within one year of their Bachelor's degree graduation, provided that the program they wish to join is available as per the regulations.

- If the original grant recipient does not enroll in the first and second semesters following their Bachelor's degree graduation, the grant passes to the next eligible student in the cohort.
- If the original recipient enrolls in the second semester following their Bachelor's degree graduation, the grant is withheld from the substitute student for that semester and is awarded to the original recipient for a maximum of three academic semesters for all majors except Dentistry, where it is awarded for four academic semesters.
- The number of substitutes cannot exceed the number of grants allocated to the cohort.
- The grant includes a monthly stipend of (200) Jordanian Dinars, along with exemption from credited hour fees.
- This grant is renewable every semester by decision of the Graduate Studies College Council as per Article (5/a), provided that the student maintains a cumulative GPA of at least (3.00) in each semester and fulfills the assigned teaching duties determined by the Graduate Studies College Council.
- Non-Jordanian students are eligible for a teaching grant if they are the top-ranking student in the cohort at the Bachelor's level, provided they enroll in any Master's program in the first semester offered after their graduation.
- If a non-Jordanian student does not utilize the grant for any reason, it is transferred to the next eligible Jordanian student in the ranking within the specified number of top grants outlined in Article (11), paragraph (a).
Article (12): The grant shall be terminated, and its disbursement to the student halted upon decision by the council in the following circumstances:
- Non-compliance with or incompetence in the assigned teaching duties by the student, as recommended by the department head.
- Withdrawal from the university or graduation of the student.
- Issuance of any disciplinary penalty against the student.
- Discovery of the student engaging in any other paid activity contrary to or in addition to the terms of the grant.
Article (13): These instructions nullify all previous instructions and decisions of the council regarding teaching grants.
Article (14): The council of deans shall address any issues arising from the implementation of these instructions.
Article (15): The president of the university and the dean are responsible for the implementation of these instructions.
