The International Conference "Coordinating Engineering for Sustainability and Resilience" CESARE'17
Deputising
for Prime Minister Hani Al-Mulki, the minister of public works and
housing Halaseh delivered a speech at the International Conference on
Civil Engineering under the title "Coordination Engineering for
Sustainability and Resilience", organized by the Civil Engineering
Department at Jordan University of Science and Technology, in the
presence of the President of Jordan University of Science and Technology
Prof. Omar AL-Jarrah and the Greek Ambassador in Jordan, Mr. Vasileios
Bornovas. In cooperation with the University of Aristotle in Greece,
and the University of Birmingham in Britain
Mr.
Halaseh said that the government gave the engineering, construction and
housing sectors priority and special interest within its 2015-2025
strategic plan for economic and social policies for the next 10 years.
This sector has direct impact on the success of the Jordanian economy
with the increase level of exports and the new mega projects carried out
through Jordanian companies, he added. He mentioned that they are
working on this plan in cooperation with specialized international
consulting firm in coordination with partners in this field, including
the Jordan Engineers Association.
He
added that Jordanian engineers are recognized throughout the region and
the world as highly qualified engineers in practice and according to
international standards in contracting and consulting companies in the
Gulf region, Middle East and North Africa.
Dr.
Omar Al-Jarrah, the President of the University, said this conference
is a reflection of Jordan's extensive urban renaissance in all aspects,
especially in the field of construction and building of viable cities
meet all the requirements of the modern era, stressing that the
construction sector is one of the most important sectors of the
Jordanian economy, Conforming with the government national strategy for
building, which will help in the development of this sector and reduces
the unemployment rate by providing employment opportunities.
The
chair of the conference, Dr. Khairedin Abdalla, a professor of civil
engineering at the JUST, said that the four-day conference will discuss a
number of topics related to the engineering in construction materials,
earthquake design, climate change, risk management, geotechnical
engineering, environmental and water engineering, transportation
engineering, road management, wind power, power generation and glass
facades in buildings. International researchers in the field of civil
engineering presented Forty-two scientific papers. The participants are
from different countries including the United States, Greece, the United
Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Romania, Lithuania, Australia, Malta,
Italy, Canada and Jordan.
The
Dean of the faculty of engineering, Prof. Yahia Al-Qawasmi said that
the faculty of engineering at JUST is one of the leading schools in
research and development in the country. It is the first college to
obtain American accreditation ABET in the field of engineering sciences
in Jordan and seeks to be an international scientific institute in the
Middle East.
Dr.
Khaldoon Bani-Hani, the civil engineering department chair, added that
this conference is part the adopted department plan of holding
international conferences that lead to build research partnerships with
researchers from world-renowned universities and being acquainted with
the latest developments and scientific researches in civil engineering
field.
