A scientific visit by postgraduate students to the Energy Authority
The College of Science and Arts organized a scientific visit for postgraduate students in the college on Tuesday, 12/27/2022, under the supervision of the Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Omari.
The visit included the Optical Synchrotron (SESAME) in Salt, and the Shafa Badran Atomic Energy Authority. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the areas of scientific research and the possibility of benefiting from synchrotron light emitted by accelerating groups of charged particles - electrons - at nearly the speed of light for several hours inside a vacuum tube.
Synchrotron light emits at different wavelengths — ranging from infrared to X-rays — that can produce different radiation lines, each capable of producing light with properties suitable for a particular type of research.
Synchrotron beams can provide one of the most powerful and advanced tools in modern science for research, covering a wide range of disciplines in various sciences and engineering for medicine, cultural heritage, healthcare and the environment, as well as basic understanding in physics and chemistry.
During this visit, the meeting was held with His Excellency Dr. Khaled Touqan, and Touqan stressed the importance of knowing the services provided by the Energy Authority and how to benefit from free examinations in its laboratories, such as physical and chemical analysis laboratories, and physical preparation. Laboratories, gamma ray spectroscopy laboratories, alpha and beta emitters measurement laboratories, and a radiation dosimetry laboratory.
