Jordan University of Science and Technology launches the first qualitative application “Hear It Right" for early detection and hearing rehabilitation in cooperation with the Swiss “Hear the World" organization
Jordan University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Swiss “Hear the World" organization, launched the first qualitative application, “Hear It Right," for early detection and hearing rehabilitation.
It is the first application in the Arabic language that facilitates the implementation of auditory-verbal therapy for parents, specialists and teachers, as part of the second phase of the “Hear Jordan" initiative embraced by the university, which aims to support hearing-impaired children and enhance early detection and auditory rehabilitation programs in the Kingdom.
The Vice President of the University, Professor Bashir Al-Khasawneh, received a delegation from the “Hear the World" organization, headed by Board Member Dr. Doreen Mulenga, and in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Professor Nihaya Al-Shayab.
Al-Khasawneh stressed that the new phase of the initiative focuses on strengthening cooperation with the Ministries of Education and Health to develop an integrated system for early detection of hearing loss in children. Its application in schools and health centers, especially the less fortunate, in accordance with international standards, explaining that the project aims to improve the quality of care provided, and contribute to the treatment of hearing problems, through training health and educational personnel, and providing assistive hearing devices for children.
Dr. Mulenga expressed her admiration for the achievements achieved by the initiative, praising the capabilities available at the university's Hearing and Speech Clinic.
The delegation's visit included lectures for university students about the efforts of the “Hear the World" organization in supporting hearing-impaired children, in addition to a detailed presentation of the “Hear Jordan" project, Which provides free services to this category. The delegation also visited Badr Housing School to follow up on audiological surveys and organize awareness sessions for teachers on the importance of early detection of hearing loss and its impact on academic and linguistic achievement.
The second phase of the initiative includes distributing hearing devices and implanting cochlear implants for hearing-impaired children, in addition to conducting accurate hearing examinations, speech training and rehabilitation programs, developing digital tools to treat speech disorders, in addition to implementing community awareness campaigns.
It is noteworthy that the cooperation between the university and the “Hear the World" organization began in 2020 with the launch of the “Hear Jordan" initiative, and resulted in qualitative achievements, including the distribution of 1,170 hearing devices, providing children with 111,000 batteries, implanting 8 cochlear implants, conducting audio examinations and surveys for thousands of children, as well as training 800 students to use modern medical devices with which the organization supported the university's clinic.
