The concept of the "Career Guidance and Alumni Office" originated as one of the recommendations from the 2003 Jordan Youth Forum, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II. The royal directives highlighted the importance of creating a communication and partnership link between students and civil society institutions to support and nurture student excellence and creativity. Additionally, there was an emphasis on establishing mechanisms and programs in universities to connect graduates with the labor market and familiarize them with it.
Following the directives of His Majesty, the initiative to establish Career Guidance and Alumni Offices / King Abdullah II Fund for Development in both public and private Jordanian universities was launched. These offices aim to prepare university students by providing them with life skills and personal competencies, thus achieving developmental goals and encouraging creativity and excellence. This initiative seeks to optimize the potential of the nation's youth, increase their employment opportunities, and pave the way for successful career paths.
In 2004, the Career Guidance and Alumni Office / King Abdullah II Fund for Development was established at Jordan University of Science and Technology. Initially, it was named the "King Abdullah II Fund for Development Office for Career Guidance and Qualification," with its activities focused on providing certain services to university students.
On December 24, 2014, the Council of the Accreditation Commission for Higher Education Institutions, in its session No. 24/2014, issued decision No. 538/24/2014. This decision approved the addition of an item to the general accreditation standards for universities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, requiring universities to establish an office under the Deanship of Student Affairs called the "Career Guidance and Alumni Office / King Abdullah II Fund for Development.
On May 18, 2015, the university signed a memorandum of understanding with the King Abdullah II Fund for Development to further develop the Career Guidance and Alumni Follow-up Office. This memorandum led to the formulation of comprehensive action plans for these offices, aligning them with the latest international best practices in career guidance and alumni relations.
