The Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), is a young and a rapidly evolving collage at Jordan University of Science and Technology with a good track record in establishing progressive academic programs. AMS was first opened in 2000 and it currently offers bachelor's degree in nine academic programs that include Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Radiologic Technology, and Paramedics, Dental Technology, Allied Dental Sciences, and Audiology and Speech Pathology. AMS is a pioneer college all across the region and was so throughout the Arab world in its establishment of two bachelor degree programs in Paramedics and Allied Dental Sciences (ADS). The Paramedic program provides Jordan and the region with high quality and well trained paramedics, who can competently assess individuals' health conditions to provide essential treatment in the field at accident or medical emergency sites. The ADS program was established to provide the dental community with the much needed dental therapist, dental educators or dental assistant. In addition, the faculty is one-of-a-kind in the region as it offers 4 outstanding and specialized graduate (master level) programs in Diagnostic Molecular and Human Genetics, Hematology and Blood Bank, Clinical Chemistry, and Medical Microbiology and Immunology. In the academic year of 2016/2017, graduate program in Physiotherapy started and more programs are expected in the coming years. All AMS programs are accredited locally by the Ministry of Higher Education and internationally by most American and European universities and academic institutions.
The faculty strives to provide Jordan and the region with quality graduates equipped with the highest international standards who would ultimately reflect positively on health care recipients and, thereon, the entire community. In 2013, the faculty implemented new curriculums in all its programs to accommodate new advances in knowledge and healthcare and to enhance practical and research skills of the students. Moreover, AMS has formed close partnerships with several hospitals in Jordan to provide clinical training to its students. These hospitals include King Abdullah University Hospital, Prince's Basma Hospital, Prince's Rahma Hospital, Royal Medical City, Prince's Hashem Hospital and others. Finally, to serve the local community, AMS organizes several free medical days, awareness days and scientific activities during each academic year.
The AMS college includes over 70 members of academic staff who are highly trained professionals in their fields of specialization sufficiently competent to engage in training and teaching of students under an academic umbrella. As faculty vehemently lives with the conviction that diversity sits behind greater success, its student body entails little over 3000 students coming into JUST from around 40 countries. Furthermore, the faculty fosters strong international student and academic staff exchange programs. The curriculums adopted by the faculty programs utilize innovative teaching approaches where students are the center of all educational activities. At AMS, we plan on staying committed to provide a well-rounded world-class education and clinical training to the constituents, who ultimately will be the right champions to fulfil the growing regional job market needs.
