Forensic medicine services are a component of health services and they are offered by:
All these centers are directed by one administration center and the staff is from JUST university and ministry of health, so this association between the university and ministry of health is a unique example of joint expertise to function as a forensic service center along with educational purposes for undergraduate and post graduate students from Jordan and other Arab countries.
The tasks of forensic medicine centers and departments:
To provide training facilities for doctors, medical undergraduates and such other persons to assist in the proper functioning of the Institute
To perform autopsies of medicolegal cases e.g. homicides, sucicdes, uncertified, RTAs, fire death, drowning, sudden natural death, sudden infant death syndrome, mass disasters, medical negligence, death in custody, skeletal remains…etc. ( about 600 cases a year )
To analyze autopsy findings (mode and cause of death, mortality, morbidity etc.)
To examine injured victims of crimes including sexual offences and child abuse cases in association with family protection unites (clinical forensic medicine)
To perform toxicological analyses, especially in autopsies and crimes (forensic toxicology)
DNA/Paternity testing services in Princess Haya biotechnology center located in King Abdullah University Hospital.
To investigate biological traces for law enforcement investigation purposes (forensic serology)
To offer expert opinions on all of the above mentioned items, especially for law enforcement and court purposes.
To conduct research in the fields of forensic pathology, forensic science, clinical forensic medicine and associated fields.
To offer data for evaluation of medical services, especially emergency services, medical first aid and traumatology
Weekly scheduled program for lectures, seminars, case presentations and journal clubs.
For teaching purposes the Centre provides:
Postgraduate four years full time course leading to a high specialty degree in forensic medicine and toxicology.
Tow years course leading to master degree in forensic science and toxicology.
Undergraduate course (
M-590) to the fifth year medical students.
Undergraduate courses for students of law and pharmacy schools.
