EE 508: Electromagnetic compatibility

Textbook: Clayton R. Paul, Introduction to Electromagnetic Compatibility, John Wiley, 2006.

Topics to be covered:

1.      Causes and effects of interference.

2.      Electrical dimensions and units conversion

3.   EMC common units and power loss in cables

4.   Power source specifications

5.   Tutorial on PSpice including transmission lines and transients.

6.      EMC regulations for civilian and military products.

7.   Measurement of conducted and radiated emissions.

8.      Non-ideal behaviour of components including: wires, printed circuit boards, resistors, capacitors, and inductors.

9.      Bio-electromagnetics.

Grading:

·         Project (10%): Grades are granted for outstanding work.

·         First midterm exam (25%), Tuesday 23 March, in P1101 (المباني الطبية) at 10:15.

·         Second midterm exam (25%), Thursday 29 April, in M4201 (المباني الطبية) at 10:15.

·         Final Exam (40%).
