Dr. Firas Abu El Samen obtained his B.Sc. in Plant Protection in 1990 and M.Sc. degrees in Plant Pathology 1993, at the University of Jordan. He worked as plant pathologist at the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC; 1994-1996).  He then completed his PhD in 2001 in the Dept. of plant pathology at North Dakota State University. He held a postdoctoral position at NDSU (2001-2003). He then moved to Michigan State University and worked as research associate and visiting assistant professor in the Dept. of plant pathology (2003-2006). Since 2006, Dr. Abu El Samen held a position of an assistant and associate professor of plant pathology at JUST. Dr. Abu El Samen held the position of Department chairperson of the plant production department at JUST several years, and served as Department chairperson of Arid land Agriculture Dept.  at UAEU (2014-2017). Dr. Abu El Samen major research interest include genetics of host-pathogen interactions and disease management of horticultural crops
