Research Grants

• Heal+: Health Education And Learning, Erasmus EU, 10/15-10/18, 1M euros.

- Goal: to develop a curriculum for a joint master program in health informatics implemented in the MENA region that will enable graduates employ information technology in the healthcare organization and delivery towards fulfilling the medical market and health demands and challenges.

• Hicure: Health Informatics Undergraduate Pathway, Erasmus EU, 10/15-10/18, 1M euros, 

 - Goal: to develop pathways of courses in the undergraduate curricula of computing and public health majors to equip student which necessary knowledge and skills in health informatics.

• Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality experiences for mobile applications for Islamic Art, DAAD, 8/17-8/18, 80K euros.

- Goal: to build Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality experiences for mobile applications to be used to highlight Islamic Art in the involved countries (Jordan, Turkey, and Germany).

• A Novel Approach for Automatic Discovery of ICD-10 Health Data Standard form Clinical Notes using Deep Learning, JUST University, 9/21-9/23, 10K $. 

- Goal: to tackle the problem of classifying clinical notes into the corresponding ICD codes using the deep learning technique. Experiments will be conducted on a dataset (clinical notes) from local hospitals, and a real dataset from patient EHR records will be used.  

• Home Healthcare IT Adoption and Implementation, Maryland University, 9/13-9/15, 20K $. 

- Goal: to Investigate the determinants of adoption for emerging home healthcare technologies such as robots and sensors. Participating in prototype development, survey development, data collection and cleaning, and statistical analysis. In addition, participating in user studies, conducting interviews, analyzing and reporting results. This project uses mixed methods: quantitative and qualitative methods. 

• Towards Effective and Efficient Adoption of Health IT in Home Health Care, AHRQ, 9/13-9/14, 100K $. 

- Goal: to assess the challenges experienced by home healthcare agencies in delivering home healthcare and assessing the current health IT adoption activities and investigating the issues that can be addressed for successful and more efficient health IT adoption. Participating in data collection, analysis and reporting. This project uses qualitative methods. 

• Using game mechanics to improve outcomes among stem cell transplant survivors, NIH, 8/12-7/13, 100K $. 

- Goal: to develop mechanics to improve outcomes among stem cell transplant survivors in Collaborating with the University of Texas Health Science Center MD Anderson Cancer Center and Radiant Creative Group, LLC.
