July 26 — Prof. Khaled El-Salem, President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), received a delegation today, Sunday, from the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (WHO/EMRO) alongside a delegation from the WHO Jordan country office. The visit forms part of an evaluation organized by the Health-Promoting Universities Network in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to review the university's experience in implementing health-promoting university standards and to exchange expertise and best practices in this field.

Prof. El-Salem welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that the university places great importance on the health and well-being of its students and staff through integrated policies and programs that foster a healthy and safe campus environment in alignment with international standards for health-promoting universities.

He highlighted that the university continuously works to develop its health, educational, and research services while strengthening partnerships with international institutions and organizations to elevate the quality of campus life and establish a culture of health and prevention. He added that this visit reflects the regional confidence JUST enjoys and underscores its position as a leading model in implementing the health-promoting university concept.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Basheer Khassawneh, Vice President of the University, and Prof. Nihaya Al-Sheyab, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Chair of the Health-Promoting University Program Steering Committee, along with members of the committee.

The visit included a field tour of several campus facilities, during which the delegation was introduced to key initiatives and services offered under the Health-Promoting University Program and briefed on practices aimed at enhancing health and quality of life on campus.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation continues its tours across various academic, research, and service centers to observe the university's integrated operational framework for health promotion.

The WHO delegation commended JUST's experience in applying health-promoting university standards, praising its qualitative initiatives and emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing among member universities within the network.

Preliminary evaluation results demonstrated outstanding performance by the university, earning high ratings that place it in a strong competitive position among participating universities—an indicator reflecting its success in applying health-promoting standards in line with approved best practices.

It is worth noting that Jordan University of Science and Technology is the first university in Jordan to officially apply for this evaluation, a step reflecting its leadership and commitment to promoting health and quality of life within the academic environment. Furthermore, the university expressed its readiness to transfer its experience to other Jordanian and Arab universities across the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
