Jordan University of Science and Technology achieved a remarkable achievement by taking third place in the Arab world in the 2025 University Challenge, organized by the United Arab Emirates University as part of the International Government Communication Forum in Sharjah.

This achievement was achieved through the efforts of the university's team, consisting of Fatima Hazaimeh from the College of Pharmacy and Hussein Hazaimeh from the College of Engineering, under the supervision of Professor Muhannad Quwaider. The team's innovative, pioneering project, "Food from Ash," offers unique solutions in the field of food security, with support and development from the university's Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects.

For his part, President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Professor Khalid El-Salem, congratulated the winning team, saying, "We are proud of this achievement by our students in the 2025 University Challenge. It embodies their excellence, creativity, and leadership in finding innovative solutions to vital societal issues, most notably food security."

El-Salem added, "This victory reflects the high level our university has reached in empowering youth and providing them with the knowledge and skills that qualify them to compete at the regional and international levels. It also strengthens Jordan's position as a center for creativity and innovation.

The winning team received a special honor from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, during the closing ceremony, which reflected the level of appreciation and interest in student innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Food From Ash project reflects the students' deep understanding of the importance of connecting technological innovation with societal needs, offering a creative and practical solution to food security challenges both locally and globally. The project's concept was perfectly aligned with this year's competition theme, which emphasized the critical role of food security in achieving community sustainability. It highlights the students' forward-looking vision and their ability to develop actionable solutions to pressing global issues such as climate change, population growth, and economic instability.

This year's competition brought together 29 teams from 18 local and international universities, all striving to present innovative ideas and solutions that serve their communities and promote sustainable development.
