Feb, 15
The President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Prof. Khaled Al-Salem, sponsored the celebration organized by the university on the occasion of Arbor Day in the presence of a number of the teaching and administrative staff at the university.
Al-Salem stressed that the university, as part of Irbid Governorate, bears the responsibility of serving the local community and working on developing it in all fields. During the celebration, he pointed to need of taking care of trees and increasing green areas in the university as that has a great role in giving the university an aesthetic view, praising and highlighting the efforts made by the Agricultural Services and Production Unit to achieve that end.
Al-Salem added that the university takes on the responsibility of cultivating the areas that are designated for agriculture on the university campus which constitutes approximately 6000 Dunums (600 Hectares) to be a green oasis. In fact, the university provides the necessary technical and financial allocations and capabilities for that.
During the celebration, an area of 20 Dunums (10 Hectares), which had already been fully prepared in terms of preparing the soil, planning and digging the hollows with machines, was planted. In total, 281 various forest trees will be planted.
