A Memorandum of Understanding between Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA)
A memorandum of understanding was signed between JUST and JFDA, which included the agreement on joint vocational training courses for graduates and workers in both the food and the pharmaceutical sectors. The MoU was signed by his Excellency Dr. Ghazi Al Zaban, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of JFDA, and Professor Sa’eb Khresat, President of JUST.
Dr. Ghazi Al Zaban encouraged this vital step in exchanging experiences to enrich graduates and workers in the pharmaceutical and food sectors alike. Professor Sa’eb Khresat stressed the importance of effective partnerships between JUST, as a leading research and scientific institution, and between JFDA, as a pioneer partner rich in the technical expertise required for the labor market. Moreover, professor Khresat pointed out the critical role played by such partnerships in the development of human resources in the society and meeting the needs of the labor market, thus contributing to bridging the gap between the labor market and academia.
His Excellency Dr. Hayel Obeidat, the General Director of the JFDA, pointed out the necessity of developing the professional competencies of the employees in the food and medical sectors. Also, he encouraged this step to inform the employees about their legislation, which will directly raise the quality of the institutional standards for those sectors, and that, in turn, will affect the health and nutritional level of the citizens. Dr. Obeidat also stressed that such partnerships are directly related to the mission of the JFDA in enhancing cooperation with partners.
The agreement, which was signed in the presence of members of the Board of Directors of JFDA and Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Studies at JUST, aims to enhance expertise in the pharmaceutical and food sectors. The programs will include professional courses in clinical studies and their regulations, especially in pharmaceutical analysis.
It is worth noting that the Center for Pharmaceutical Studies was established at JUST in 2004 to contribute to meeting the demands of the local and international market for clinical and analytical studies. The Center has also been accredited for conducting clinical studies as part of King Abdullah University Hospital based on the exceptional medical and technical expertise available in the hospital and the university. Prof. Rana Obaidat, Director of the Center, said that the center had conducted more than 50 clinical studies in various phases (I-IV); in addition to overviewing more than 300 analytical studies. It should also be noted that most of
the studies conducted by the Center are multi-site international studies conducted under the direct supervision of the Human Research Committee at JUST and JFDA.
