Under the patronage of the Vice President of JUST, Prof. Osama Nusier, the Faculty of Engineering held a Scientific Day on Industrial Engineering. Prof. Nusier highlighted how JUST continues to distinguish itself by allocating all the required resources to acquire skilled faculty members and staff, conduct high-quality research, and promote academic and non-academic activities in the university. The Dean of Engineering, Prof. Sameer Al-Asheh, stressed out that JUST is committed to serving the industrial and non-industrial sectors by providing consultation and producing capable fresh graduates, as well as providing help to the surrounding communities and those in need. Thus, it is no wonder that JUST had a big leap in university rankings worldwide, as it is ranked among the top 500 universities according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017, and the 68th according to the QS World University Rankings 2017. Then, the Chairman of the Industrial Engineering Department, Dr. Omar Bataineh, talked about the achievements of the IE department and indicated that the IE Department was among the first three departments at JUST to be awarded with ABET accreditation in the year 2007. Dr. Bataineh also introduced the vision and mission, degree programs offered, research activities, and some basic statistics and future plans for the IE department.
Among several guests from the industry, academia and the engineering profession, Eng. Omar Manasreh, President of the Jordan Engineers Association – Irbid Branch, talked about the engineering profession and the job opportunities in the market for the various fields of engineering, especially industrial engineering. Eng. Faris Fallouh, who is the Global Express and Ground Operations Director at Aramex International Limited, lectured on what Industrial Engineers at Aramex do and how valuable they have been in their day-to-day operations. The Managing Director of MUHAKAT, Eng. Samer Al-Madhoun, presented an important lecture on Supply Chain Management and its role in industry and how it opens new career opportunities for industrial engineers. The Director for The Center of Excellence and Innovation Projects at JUST, Dr. Fahed Awad talked about the services provided by The Center of Excellence and Innovation Projects in terms of available training, available resources for rapid prototyping and project implementation, and realizing innovative ideas into patents and possibly business franchises.
The Vice President of JUST, Prof. Osama Nusier, then opened the industrial exhibition, which includesd various innovative IE student projects, wall posters, and products and services' materials displayed by the participating companies. Prof. Nusier praised the quality of the materials presented in the exhibition. Following the exhibition, the second session started with a scientific lecture by Eng. Shorouq Al-Olaimi who presented a research work entitled "Mechanical and Wear Characterization of ZA-27 Alloy Based Nano-Composites Reinforced with SiC Particles". The delegate of Shamal Start company, Eng. Mohamad Barakat, and the delegate of the joint venture between the Distinguished Modern Jordanian Company for Information Technology and Mawarid Technology, then presented a brief statement about their companies. The session was concluded by an inauguration ceremony for the companies sponsoring the event, students with the best wall poster, and other staff who provided critical support for the event. Finally, five parallel training workshops were offered to students for free by the SDK Training Center in various topics of industrial engineering.
