A Session to Discuss the Problems of Transportation Facing the Students in Jordan University of Science and Technology

The Deanship of the Students Affairs at Jordan University of Science and Technology organized a session between the Transport Sector in the Northern Region and the Bus Operators in Irbid Governorate. The meeting was held in the presence of the Consultant of the Director of the Public Transport Sector in the provinces, Engineer Mahmoud Telfah, who tried to resolve the outstanding issues and problems facing the students of Jordan University of Science and Technology regarding the transport sector.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the necessary solutions for the problems facing the students in the morning, while they are waiting for the buses in the governorate parking, such as Al- Aghoar parking, the northern parking and Al-Sheikh Khalil parking, and the problems facing the students in the evening, while they are waiting in the university parking.

Moreover, the Director of the Public Transport Sector in the North Province, Engineer Rola Al-Omari said that one of the priorities taken by the Public Transport Authority is to ensure safe transport for the students on their way to the university and their safely return to their homes. She also added that the Authority will monitor the buses through the representative of the Transport Sector Authority located in all the bus stations to monitor any excesses by drivers, noting that there are new places, which will be created especially for the buses of the University of Science and Technology instead of the old places to organize the bus movements within the parking.

In his turn, the Head of the Central Traffic Department of the province of Irbid, colonel Hayel Al-Khalayleh, said that the sector will monitor the bus lines through the Traffic Investigation Division in the civil dress inside the buses and on the main public roads linking Irbid and the University to ensure the compliance of drivers with the rules and regulations, indicating that the drivers who exceed serious violations will be transferred to the administrative governor.

From his side, Dr. Awni Al-Atoum , the Dean of the Students Affairs at Jordan University of Science and Technology said that the total number of students who arrive daily from Irbid reaches to 6067 students distributed on separate hours throughout the day. He revealed that 1512 students arrive to the university campus at 8:30 o'clock in the morning, 1558 students at 10:00 o'clock, 1616 students at 11:00 o'clock, 968 students at 1:00 o'clock, and 413 students at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon.

At the end of the session, Dr. Al-Atoum thanked the representatives of the Transport Sector in the North Region, the Central Traffic Department of the province of Irbid and the Bus Operators for their continuous efforts to find solutions for the transportation problems facing the students who come from Irbid to the University of Science and Technology and return back without any obstacles.
