Al Atoum Patronizes the Launch of the Energy Club at JUST


Under the patronage of The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Science and Technology, Dr. Awni Al-Atoum,  a number of Engineering students, in cooperation with the Deanship of the Student Affairs, organized the launch of the Energy Club which was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Azzam ,  the Secretary of the International and Local Branch of the Society of Energy Engineers AEE, Eng. Samer Zwaideh ,and a number of the faculty members and  students of the university.

In his opening speech, Dr. Awni Al Atoum highlighted the role of the university in supporting the students' initiatives, especially in the field of energy because of their great importance in providing new sources of energy and preserving the existing ones. In addition, he pointed out that the establishment of the University Energy Club promotes a strong relations between the university on the one hand and the public and private institutions in Jordan on the other hand. 

Furthermore, Al-Atoum emphasized that the university has worked to raise the awareness of the society regarding the best uses of energy to reduce its consumption. Therefore, the university started its first project of using renewable energy by generating power from the solar energy in a capacity of 5 MW. Al-Atoum also added that the university is working on its second project in a capacity of 20 MW, which will lead to decrease in its power bill of about one JD million per month to a nearly JD zero, noting that the University has worked on several projects aiming at reducing the use of energy and upgrading the efficiency of the devices used in it.

For his part, Eng. Amani Al Azzam showed the importance of the renewable energy in Jordan and its role in improving the status of the local community and national economy.  The Chairman of the Energy Club, Eng. Omar Zou’bi, also highlighted to have the university students involved in the wheel of progress in the renewable energy at the level of the Jordanian society. He added that the university has an important role in supporting the students and their creative ideas. 
On his side, Eng. Samer Zawaideh spoke about the engineering society AEE in terms of its origin, its branches in the Jordanian universities and its role in providing several courses, workshops, field visits, and various related activities in the field of the renewable energy, as well as the incentives and the conferences which are provided by this international organization.
