A seminar at Jordan University of Science and Technology addresses the challenges facing dentistry in the era of rapid technological advancements

The Faculty of Dentistry at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) recently organized a panel discussion titled "Challenges of Dentistry in Light of Rapid Technological Advancement." Held in the presence of the Faculty Dean, Prof. Rola Al-Habashneh, the event brought together an elite group of experts and healthcare decision-makers to discuss the future of the profession. During the session, Prof. Al-Habashneh emphasized the urgent need to revolutionize dental education by integrating digital technology and artificial intelligence into academic curricula to keep pace with global advancements. She also took the opportunity to celebrate the faculty's ongoing academic excellence and its advanced standing in the global QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The discussion provided a comprehensive look at the dental landscape from multiple perspectives. Prof. Aya Al-Asmar reviewed the current state of the profession in Jordan, shedding light on the specific challenges faced by new graduates and stressing that continuous skill development and specialized training are the most critical pillars for success in today's labor market. Highlighting advancements within the Royal Medical Services, Brig. Gen. Dr. Nidal Habahbeh addressed the digitization of dental services and the vital role their internship and residency programs play in providing an advanced training environment. Similarly, Dr. Zakaria Al-Bdour outlined the Ministry of Health's pivotal role in regulating the sector, detailing the ministry's strategic plans to expand residency opportunities and achieve a better balance between saturated dental specialties and emerging market needs. Representing the private sector, Dr. Hatem Al-Rashdan affirmed that mastering modern technology is no longer a luxury but an urgent professional necessity, crucial for enhancing diagnostic accuracy and the overall quality of patient care.

The panel concluded with a unified consensus on the vital importance of continuous dental education and stronger integration between academic institutions and healthcare providers, wrapping up with an extensive and engaging interactive dialogue. Additionally, on the sidelines of the event, the panelists met with the Vice President of the University, Prof. Bashir Al-Khasawneh. Together, they explored strategic ways to further cement JUST's pioneering role in developing the dental sector at both the local and regional levels
