Jordan University of Science and Technology Celebrates World Chemistry Day and Arab Chemistry Week

In line with its commitment to advancing scientific research, promoting the culture of science and knowledge, and fostering a spirit of experimentation and discovery among students, the Faculty of Science and Arts and the Institute of Nanotechnology at Jordan University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Jordanian Chemical Society, organized the event ChemNano Day. This celebration coincided with the Arab Chemistry Week, an annual event held by the Arab Chemists Union during the fourth week of October. It also aligned with the World Chemistry Day (Mole Day), observed annually in October, commemorating the Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro and his Avogadro’s number.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mona Abu Dalo, Vice President of the University. She was accompanied by Professor Dr. Abeer Albawab, Chairperson of the Jordanian Chemical Society, Professor Dr. Kamel M. Al-Khaled, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Arts, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali H. Al-Omari, Dean of the Institute of Nanotechnology. They emphasized the importance of organizing such events, which help develop students’ scientific skills and cultivate their passion for science, knowledge, and exploration. They also expressed their appreciation for the distinguished efforts of the Jordanian Chemical Society and the Institute of Nanotechnology in supporting and enriching the university with their initiatives, continuous participation in scientific activities, and cooperation with various local, regional, and international entities.

Professor Dr. Abeer Albawab presented an overview of the Jordanian Chemical Society, its role in serving the field of chemistry, and an outline of its various activities, expressing gratitude for the joint efforts.

Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Kamel M. Al-Khaled, dean of the faculty of science, welcomed the attendees. Dr. Abdel Latif A. Ibdah, Head of the chemistry department, delivered a welcoming speech to the new students of the chemistry department. Dr. Ayat Bozeya, assistant dean of the Institute of Nanotechnology, delivered a presentation on the Institute and the academic programs it offers at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

To highlight the vital role of chemistry and nanotechnology in scientific and practical fields, Professor Dr. Mona Abu Dalo inaugurated the “Scientific Tent,” which featured a series of applied scientific experiments aimed at introducing students to the various fields of chemistry and the programs offered by the Institute of Nanotechnology. The event also included presentations of some scientific products developed through master’s theses by students of the institute and the chemistry department.
