October 28 – Irbid, Jordan – Under the patronage of Professor Khalid Al-Salem, President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), the National Erasmus+ Office in cooperation with the International Relations Office at Jordan university of Science and Technology organized Erasmus+ North Region Info Day.
The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, H.E. Professor Mahmoud Al-Sheyyab, former Minister of Health and Head of the Higher Education Reform Experts Team in Jordan, as well as Prof.Ahmed Abu El-Heija, Director of the National Erasmus+ Office, Professor Abeer Al-Bawab, Dr. Ghadeer Al-Shaaban, Eng. Asmaa Al-Samadi, and Ms. Tasneem Al-Tal from the Erasmus+ Office. Representatives of Jordanian universities, higher education institutions from various governorates, and members of civil society organizations (NGOs) also participated.
In his opening remarks, Professor Khalid Al-Salem welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that hosting this event aligns with the university's vision to strengthen academic and research cooperation with European higher education institutions. He highlighted the importance of getting benefits from EU programs in capacity building, student and researcher exchange, and fostering innovation.
“Erasmus+ program serves as an effective bridge connecting Jordanian and European universities, inspiring students to broaden their horizons and gain international experiences that enhance their skills and employability in the global market," Al-Salem said.
H.E Ambassador Chatzisavas noted that Erasmus+ plays a vital role in supporting international cooperation and expanding educational opportunities, adding that the program not only facilitates academic exchange but also promotes cultural understanding and the sharing of best practices among institutions.
Prof. Ahmed Abu El-Heija, Director of the National Erasmus+ Office, commended JUST for hosting the event and stressed the importance of strengthening academic and research partnerships between Jordanian and European universities. He highlighted that Erasmus+ has made a tangible impact on Jordan's higher education sector, benefiting around 8,000 students and faculty members through academic mobility opportunities and more than 185 capacity-building projects that contributed to curriculum development, teaching innovation, and international collaboration.
Prof. Samir Al-Bashir, Director of the International Relations Office at JUST, expressed pride in the university's achievements within the Erasmus+ framework over recent years. He reaffirmed the university's commitment to expanding its international academic network and enhancing its position as a regional hub for education, research, and cultural exchange, in line with its vision of global engagement and institutional excellence.
The event featured informative sessions on applying for capacity-building projects and academic mobility programs, success stories from Jordanian universities that benefited from Erasmus+ initiatives, and discussion panels exploring new collaboration opportunities. Participants were also introduced to the Higher Education priorities for 2025 /2026 under the Erasmus+ program
