Jordan University of Science and Technology Welcomes Delegation from Syrian Ministry of Higher Education to Strengthen Academic and Research Cooperation

October 14, 2025 – Professor Khalid El-Salem, President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), welcomed a delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, led by His Excellency Dr. Marwan Jamil Al-Halabi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Dhafir Al-Sarayrah, President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions, Acting Secretary-General Shadi Musaidah, the university's vice presidents and deans, along with a number of Syrian students currently enrolled at JUST.

During the visit, both sides explored opportunities for academic and research collaboration and discussed ways to strengthen scientific partnerships between the two nations.

In his remarks, Prof. El-Salem delivered a comprehensive overview of the university's journey, highlighting its significant academic and research achievements. He also presented the university's strategic plans aimed at enhancing education, advancing scientific research, and serving the community—aligning with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision, which aspires to build a knowledge-based economy founded on innovation and educational excellence.

Prof. El-Salem reaffirmed the university's commitment to leveraging its expertise in scientific research and academic accreditation to deepen cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education. He also expressed JUST's readiness to build strategic partnerships with Syrian universities and to launch joint programs and initiatives that support development efforts in both countries, fostering greater integration in higher education and research.

For his part, Minister Al-Halabi expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and voiced his admiration for JUST's advancements across various fields. He emphasized the longstanding and deep-rooted relationship between Jordan and Syria.

The Minister also provided an overview of the current state of higher education in Syria, outlining the Ministry's efforts to overcome national challenges, strengthen institutional infrastructure, promote research, and accelerate digital transformation.

Dr. Al-Sarayrah underscored the importance of academic cooperation and the exchange of expertise, highlighting their role in elevating the quality of higher education and achieving accreditation and quality assurance standards.

The visit concluded with an open dialogue, during which both parties discussed concrete steps to further develop scientific and academic partnerships.
