Jordan University of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement to manage the project of developing a smart system to control seed storage conditions with Al-Oula for Seeds Production Company, which is considered one of the largest seed breeding, production and export companies in the Middle East and North Africa region, which was established in Jordan in 2013. The funding of this agreement comes through the Higher Education for Innovation and Growth a USAID funded Activity(USAID). The agreement, which was signed on behalf of the university by Vice President Prof. Muna Abu Dalo in the presence of the Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects, Prof. Muhannad Quwaider, and from the Faculty of Agriculture, the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Anas Al-Nabulsi and Prof. Dr. Ammar Albalasmeh, and on behalf of the company, Eng. Salah Abu Musa, Eng. Rami Abu Musa, Mr. Mohammed Okour, Osama Haboob and Yazan Al Taweel, aims to establish a partnership aimed at developing a smart system to control seed storage conditions and germination rates. This system will ensure ideal storage conditions by regulating key factors such as temperature, humidity, light and carbon dioxide levels using automated sensors and smart technologies. This will improve germination rates, plant health, seed quality and storage.
The agreement also stipulated the establishment of a university research and training laboratory to store seeds and test their germination, in addition to providing an opportunity for employees and students to train on using the system in the company and the research laboratory at the university. This event represents the beginning of a promising cooperation to support Jordanian higher education institutions and companies and advance influential projects.
For her part, Professor Abu Dalo stressed that this cooperation comes in fulfillment of the university's vision and mission of spreading education and knowledge creation, linking with industry, and creating a stimulating environment for excellence, creativity, and innovation through effective local partnerships with the aim of refining and developing students' skills in various fields, and increasing their contribution to the gross domestic product. It is also a valuable opportunity for students to develop their practical skills and expand their cognitive horizons to enable them to engage in the labor market efficiently.
