Jordan University of Science and Technology wins Arab awards in combating smoking

January 2,2025 - Jordan University of Science and Technology achieved a distinguished achievement by winning second place in the category of “Best Program in Training and Qualification" for smoking cessation services, through the smoking cessation clinic on the university campus. The award comes within the “McCain Arab Anti-Smoking Award." In its second session.

Professor Nihaya Al-Sheyab, Dean of the faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, also won third place in the “Best Research and Studies Related to Smoking" category, in recognition of her distinguished research contributions in this field.

This achievement is consistent with the axes of the strategic plan of Jordan University of Science and Technology and the vision of economic modernization, which resulted in the establishment of a smoking cessation clinic two years ago at Jordan University of Science and Technology, making it one of the first public universities.

The university is the only entity from Jordan to win in two categories of the award, outperforming a large number of institutions, researchers and activists from various Arab countries.

It is noteworthy that the "McCain Award" aims to honor institutions and individuals who contribute to promoting healthy living and combating smoking, and to encourage innovation and creativity in confronting this phenomenon.

The winners will be honored and prizes, shields and certificates of appreciation will be handed over at an official ceremony that will be held soon in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
