Jordan University of Science and Technology hosts the Health Ambassadors initiative to combat smoking and promote health awareness
Jordan University of Science and Technology hosted the launch event of the “Health Ambassadors" initiative, in partnership between the Jordanian Anti-Smoking Society and the Anti-Smoking Office at the King Hussein Cancer Center, with the aim of enhancing health awareness among students and the university community.
The workshop activities were opened by a representative of the University President, Vice President Professor Bashir Khasawneh, in the presence of Professor Mona Abu Dalu, a number of college deans, members of the teaching and administrative bodies, and students of Jordanian universities.
The Dean of Applied Medical Sciences, Professor Nihaya Al-Shayab, explained that this initiative aims to increase health awareness about non-communicable diseases and the importance of prevention, and change behaviors towards exercising, eating healthy food, and conducting periodic medical examinations, stressing the importance of the role of health and community institutions in building healthy communities. Smoke-free, empowering young people to be ambassadors for positive change.
Dr. Zainab Al-Kilani, President of the Jordanian Universities Anti-Smoking Association, reviewed a group of health challenges facing Jordanian society, focusing on the need to activate the role of youth in combating the phenomenon of smoking. Al-Kilani also gave a detailed presentation on the national efforts made to reduce the spread of smoking, and the importance of health awareness in supporting these phenomenon efforts.
Ms. Tammam Naimat, from the Cancer Control Office at the King Hussein Cancer Center, indicated that the center seeks to intensify work, pioneering roles, and medical research to spread permanent awareness, with the aim of reducing the dangers of smoking and its negative effects in light of the industrial revolution, which has introduced the tobacco industries in various forms into a path that threatens the health and future of peoples.
The initiative included a series of awareness-raising activities about the dangers of smoking and the importance of cancer prevention, in addition to educational and interactive programs designed to motivate students to adopt healthy lifestyles that contribute to reducing the health risks associated with smoking.
This initiative comes within the efforts aimed at building a healthy society that is aware and supportive of public health issues, with a focus on the importance of prevention as a basis for maintaining the health of individuals and society.
