Training Workshop at the University of Science and Technology Titled " Water Information Processing, Management, Analysis and Decision Making."
Jordan University of Science and Technology, represented by the Water Diplomacy Center, in collaboration with the Geneva Water Hub – Switzerland, held a training workshop titled "Water Information Processing, Management, Analysis and Decision Making."
The course was inaugurated on behalf of the university president, Professor Khaled El-Salem, by Vice President Professor Ahmad Al-Ajlouni, with the presence of several faculty and administrative members and the participation of member states of the Blue Peace Initiative in the Middle East.
Al-Ajlouni emphasized that water data management, analysis, and processing play a critical role in water diplomacy, particularly in managing shared water resources across national or regional borders. He added that it strengthens water diplomacy by providing necessary data, tools, and cooperative frameworks for the fair, transparent, and sustainable management of shared water resources. This reduces potential conflicts, enhances suitable agreements, and ensures long-term cooperation between countries.
The Director of the Water Diplomacy Center, Professor Mutawakel Obaidat, noted that the course is part of the ongoing activities of the Blue Peace Middle East Capacity Development Project, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. It aims to equip participants with essential skills in water data analysis and evaluation, as well as water resource management and critical decision-making for water conservation.
In his turn, the Regional Advisor for Water Sector Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy, Eng. Mufleh Al-Alaween, expressed his appreciation for the partnership with the university, stressing the importance of the training workshops offered by the center and their role in enhancing dialogue among the countries of the Blue Peace Initiative.
In her remarks, Dr. Natasha Carmi, Director of Water-Peace Projects at the Geneva Water Hub, praised the university and the center for organizing the workshop and reaffirmed the Geneva Water Hub's commitment to supporting the Blue Peace Initiative.
It is worth mentioning that this is the fourth course in a series of training workshops organized by the WDC, lasting one week, with local, regional, and international participation. It targets researchers, engineers, and diplomats from the countries involved in the Blue Peace Initiative: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan.
