Prof. Fayez Abdulla is awarded the Abdul Hammed Shoman Arab Researchers Award for year 2020
The Dean of the College of
Engineering would like to congratulate Prof. Fayez Abdulla
for his great achievement in being awarded the Abdul Hammed Shoman Arab
Researchers Award for year 2020 in the field of Engineering Sciences in the
topic of “Global Warming and Climate Change.
The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for
Arab Researchers is the first Award of its kind dedicated for scientific
research and to honor Arab researchers since 1982. The award aims to support
and highlight scientific research throughout the Arab world as it is awarded in
recognition of distinguished scientific outcome of scientific and social value.
The award targets Arab researchers
who have conducted multiple researches in an Arab country in one of the
following 6 fields: Medical and Health Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Basic
Sciences; Literature and Humanitarian, Social and Educational Sciences;
Economics and Administration Sciences, and Agriculture and Technology. Each
year, two topics under each field are selected as award themes, with 12 awards.
The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation
announced, the winners of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers
for the 38th session of 2020. The number of candidates for this session reached
(477) male and female candidates from Jordan and the Arab world. The scientific
committee of the award, headed by Dr. Amin Mahmoud, indicated that the prizes
were distributed this year to researchers of the following nationalities: (4)
from Jordan, (4) from Egypt, (3) from Lebanon, (1) from Saudi Arabia, (1) from
the UAE.
Professor Abdulla holds a Ph.D. in
Water resources and environmental engineering from University of Washington,
Seattle, USA in year 1995. He has more than 25 years of national, regional and
international experience in water resources, climate change and drought assessment
and environmental engineering. He is recognized by many countries in the region
as a regional expert on climate change and hydrology and drought Assessment.
He joined the Civil Engineering
Department at Jordan University of Science & Technology in year 1995.
During the period 2000-2004, he was the Director Queen Rania Al-Abdullah Centre
for Environmental Sciences and Technology (QRACEST) at Jordan University of
Science and Technology (JUST).
