The Water Diplomacy Center met with the Center of Iraq Marshes & Wetlands
A delegation from the Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) headed by Professor Prof. Majid Abu Zreig, accompanied by Professor Prof. Mutawakel Obeidat and Professor Prof. Waseem Barham, met with the Director General of the Center of Iraq Marshes & Wetlands, Engineer Hussein Ali Al-Kattan. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Luay Ali from the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, Engineer Fadel Hussein, and Engineer Safaa Talal.
During the meeting, Dr. Majid emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two centers. The WDC is currently developing a research project on the development of the Huwaizah marshes between Iraq and Iran as part of the Blue Peace Middle East Capacity Building Project funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. He stressed the WDC's commitment to providing expertise and knowledge to support efforts to revive the marshes and preserve this unique ecosystem. In addition, the frameworks for cooperation related to conducting joint research and future projects on the Al-Huwaizah marshes, and exchanging information and expertise in this field were discussed.
This visit is an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the WDC and the ICRM.
