The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) strengthens its cooperation with the Bahr al-Uloum Forum in Iraq.
A delegation from the Water Diplomacy Center at the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) visited Iraq as part of an official visit. The delegation met with the head of the Bahr al-Uloum Forum in Iraq, former Iraqi Oil Minister Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Oloom, and a number of members of the forum headed by Professor Prof. Majid Abu Zreig, accompanied by Professor Prof. Mutawakel Obeidat and Professor Prof. Waseem Barham. The two parties discussed many issues related to enhancing water security in the context of shared and transboundary water issues in light of climate change.
Professor Prof. Majid Abu Zreig, Director of the Water Diplomacy Center at the University, explained that the center was established to enhance this role through cooperation in the field of transboundary water and conflict prevention through active water diplomacy that achieves the concept of water security for all.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the Bahr al-Uloum Forum and the Water Diplomacy Center, pointing out that the forum is committed to providing innovative solutions to water and climate change issues. The Bahr al-Uloum Forum is an important platform for dialogue and research on water and climate change issues, which are accelerating. The forum also highlights the role of civil society organizations in researching problems and finding water solutions, in addition to raising community awareness.
The meeting also discussed the Blue Peace Middle East Capacity Building Project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, which is being implemented by the Water Diplomacy Center. The project aims to enhance cooperation between countries in the region in the field of managing shared water resources, through exchanging data and expertise and enhancing capacities in this field.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the forum and the center in implementing joint research and future projects, exchanging expertise, and organizing events, seminars, and workshops that aim to spread awareness about water issues and climate changes. It is worth noting here that the Water Diplomacy Center at the Jordan University of Science and Technology is the only regional center in this field.
