Dr. Majed Abu Zreig, the Director of the Water Diplomacy Center at the University of Science and Technology, hosted a delegation from the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), representing one of the centers of CGIAR. The delegation included Dr. Youssef Brouziyne, the Middle East and North Africa Representative, and Dr. Maha Al-Zu'bi, a researcher in agricultural and water solutions at the institute.
After welcoming the guests, Dr. Majed Abu Zreig provided an overview of the vision and mission of the Water Diplomacy Center, as well as its ongoing projects, notably the Blue Peace Initiative for Capacity Building, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. He also outlined the objectives and future activities of the project, which is set to span four years.
On his part, Dr. Youssef presented the services provided by the International Water Management Institute that cross borders. The institute's research focuses on improving water and land resource management to enhance food security, reduce poverty, and preserve vital environmental processes. He showcased the projects executed by the institute, which concentrate on water availability, climate change adaptation, more efficient and productive water usage, and research concerning water quality and its relation to health and the environment, as well as guiding communities in exploiting their water resources.
At the end of the meeting, possibilities for joint cooperation between the Water Diplomacy Center and the International Water Management Institute were discussed, aiming to provide evidence-based solutions, tools, technologies, or research to support enhancing water and food security in the region. This collaboration seeks to achieve the goals of the Blue Peace Initiative for Capacity Building at the Water Diplomacy Center through local capacity-building efforts.​
