Water Diplomacy Center and INWRDAM Collaborate for Enhanced WEFE NEXUS Project in the Middle East under Blue Peace Initiative
The Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at the Jordan University of Science and Technology hosted a delegation from The Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWARDAM), led by its Executive Director, Dr. Marwan Alraggad. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration to enhance the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus project. The fruitful meeting took place on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the Water Diplomacy Center.
During the meeting, Dr. Majed Abu Zreig presented the goals and activities of the Blue Peace Initiative, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and based at the Jordan University of Science and Technology. The two parties discussed potential cooperation to achieve the WEFE Nexus-related objectives within the project.
Additionally, they deliberated on the upcoming Blue Peace ME Youth Fellowship Program, a new initiative set to be launched in 2024, aimed at attracting engineers from Blue Peace countries to receive training on transboundary water management in cooperation between nations. The meeting also addressed capacity-building initiatives to enhance cross-border cooperation concerning water resources and bolster water diplomacy skills in the region.
This strategic collaboration represents a significant step towards promoting sustainable water management and cross-border cooperation in the Middle East.
It is worth noting that the International Network on Water and Development in the Muslim World (INWRDAM) is an independent non-profit organization with international legal status as an intellectual entity.
