Jordan University of Science and Technology students among top three teams in Sharjah's University Challenge competition
Jordan University of Science and Technology achieved a remarkable achievement by taking third place in the Arab world in the 2025 University Challenge, organized by the United Arab Emirates University as part of the International Government Communication Forum in Sharjah on September 11, 2025. This achievement was achieved through the efforts of the university's team, consisting of Fatima Hazaimeh from the College of Pharmacy and Hussein Hazaimeh from the College of Engineering, under the supervision of Professor Muhannad Quwaider. The team's innovative, pioneering project, "Food from Ash," offers unique solutions in the field of food security, with support and development from the university's Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects.
For his part, President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Professor Khalid El-Salem, congratulated the winning team, saying, We are proud of this achievement by our students in the 2025 University Challenge. It embodies their excellence, creativity, and leadership in finding innovative solutions to vital societal issues, most notably food security. El-Salem added, This victory reflects the high level our university has reached in empowering youth and providing them with the knowledge and skills that qualify them to compete at the regional and international levels. It also strengthens Jordan's position as a center for creativity and innovation. The winning team received a special honor from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, during the closing ceremony, which reflected the level of appreciation and interest in student innovation and entrepreneurship. Professor Muhannad Quwaider, the team's supervisor, said: The Food From Ash project demonstrates our students' deep awareness of the need to link technological innovation with societal needs and offers an innovative solution to food security locally and globally. The project idea was perfectly aligned with this year's competition theme, which focuses on the importance of food security in achieving community sustainability. This reflects our students' vision for the future and their ability to provide practical solutions to contemporary challenges such as climate change, population growth, and economic turmoil. Twenty-nine teams from 18 local and international universities participated in the competition, competing to present innovative ideas and solutions that contribute to serving the community and promoting sustainable development.
