Under the patronage of the Vice President of the Jordan University of Science and Technology, Prof. Muna Abu Dalo, and within the SoWas project supported by the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and in cooperation with the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects, the activities of the Hackathon (Solid Waste Management) were launched, which aims to find creative and innovative solutions for recycling waste and finding sustainable and safe solutions for the environment, health, education and smart solutions using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.
The activities were opened by the Director of the Center, Prof. Muhannad Quwaider, in the presence of the Deputy Director, Dr. Wafaa Al-Taan, and the Center's staff, where he welcomed the guests, participants and project managers from the GIZ organization represented by Salua Moussawel, Pieter Hennipman and Hala Aladwan. Engineer Hazem Abu Makh, Director of Recycling Stations in the Greater Irbid Municipality, also gave a speech in which he expressed his thanks for holding this event and expressed the municipality's readiness to support the use of artificial intelligence in waste recycling. Prof. Hani Abu Qudays, a specialist in water and environmental engineering, also gave a lecture from the university on waste and its health and environmental effects.
