Distinguished Scientific Participation by Jordan University of Science and Technology, Represented by the GEO Health Hub Team, at ISEE 2026 in Munich, Germany
Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), represented by researchers from among its faculty members, students, and full-time lecturers from the GeoHealth Hub for Climate Change and Health in the MENA project team—funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (US NIH)—participated in the annual conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE 2026), held in Munich, Germany.
This year's conference was held under the theme "Understanding and Responding to Global and Local Challenges: Environmental Epidemiology in a Changing World," organized by Helmholtz Munich, under the patronage of the Minister of Health, Care, and Prevention of the State of Bavaria, Judith Gerlach, reflecting the paramount importance of environmental research in shaping public health policies.
The university achieved a distinguished participation, marked by the outstanding accomplishment of three members of the project team at the university—including two students and a full-time lecturer—who secured competitive travel grants to support their attendance and active participation in presenting their research papers. In this regard, Professor Dr. Fayez Abdullah, Director of the GEO Health Hub project and Director of the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Environmental Science and Technology at the university, emphasized the strategic importance of this participation in a global scientific conference of the scale of ISEE 2026, reflecting the advanced scientific level and prestigious research reputation enjoyed by our academic and research personnel. He also noted the keenness of the GEO Health Hub project and the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Center for Environmental Science and Technology to always invest in young human resources, in addition to developing the university's partnerships with international scientific institutions in advanced research fields related to climate and the environment.
On another note, the research presented by the project team addressed a range of pressing environmental and health issues with direct impact on public health and environmental policies in Jordan and the region, including:
studies on heatwaves and climate change, air pollution and its cognitive and health effects on children, artificial intelligence and pollutant estimation, waste management and methane emissions, comprehensive environmental changes, in addition to climate change and its resulting environmental and health impacts.
This participation affirms the role of Jordan University of Science and Technology as a leading center for environmental and health research in the Middle East, and its continuous endeavor to translate scientific outputs into applied policies that contribute to protecting the environment and enhancing public health.
