The Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Technology (CSDST) at the
Jordan University of Science and Technology JUST participated in a discussion session titled "The Role of Civil Society in the Sustainability of Local Governance." In this session, Mrs. Islam Al-Tamimi, Director of Projects at the Center, spoke about the concept and goals of sustainable development in general, and specifically within local governance. She emphasized the importance of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all projects carried out by local administrations to ensure the promotion of community participation and sustainable planning.
She also pointed out that there are numerous sustainability initiatives within local communities in Jordan, and emphasized that local governments should move beyond their traditional role of providing basic services to adopt new policies that enhance community engagement and ensure sustainable planning.
The conference was attended by several Members of Parliament, representatives from local administrations, civil society organizations, and international institutions, as well as political, party, women’s, and youth leaders from various sectors and governorates. This conference aligns with Jordan’s vision for comprehensive modernization, which includes updates to the political, economic, and administrative systems.
