The
Center for Sustainable Development Studies & Technology-JUST (CSDST) at Jordan University of Science and Technology JUSTJ(JUST) organized a transformative training workshop in the city of Irbid. Aimed at fostering social accountability, the workshop titled "Digital Advocacy Tools for Social Accountability" provided participants with valuable insights into leveraging digital tools for societal betterment.
The event, conducted in collaboration with the Irbid Chamber of Commerce, engaged active members of the local community. Professor Dr. Ammar Almaaytah, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Director of CSDST emphasized the pivotal role of social accountability in driving positive change. The workshop delved into theoretical and practical case studies, illustrating ways to employ digital advocacy tools for addressing specific societal challenges, such as reporting and tracking issues within the local community.
Participants were equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for effective engagement in the social accountability system. The training empowered them to demand improved services and contribute meaningfully to decision-making processes through the constructive use of digital advocacy tools and social media platforms.
Dr. Almaaytah highlighted the success of digital advocacy campaigns in today's technologically driven era of globalization and digitization. He stressed that such campaigns play a crucial role in influencing positive change amidst the rapid technological developments.
This workshop is a part of the third phase of the project "Developing of Effecticent Social Accountability Strategies for Better Health Outcomes within Jordan." It falls under the broader initiative "Enhancing Social Accountability and Empowering Civil Society Institutions to Achieve Good Governance," implemented in collaboration with the Al-Hayat Center-RASED. The project is co-funded by the European Union Delegation in Jordan and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, as part of the Nazaha project.
As an integral component of Jordan University of Science and Technology's ongoing commitment to community service, this workshop underscores the university's dedication to achieving sustainable development goals and enhancing the standard of living for all members of society.
After the workshop, Professor Dr. Almaaytah expressed gratitude to the President of the Irbid Chamber of Commerce and distributed certificates to participants. The event was also attended by the Director of the Training Department at the Irbid Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Samar Al-Tal.
