مسابقة IEEEXtreme 2019
19 Oct 2019

The Faculty of Computer & Information Technology (CIT) at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) was hosting the IEEEXtreme 24-Hour Programming competition this year. IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE student members from the all world universities, supported by an IEEE student branch, advised and proctored by an IEEE member, compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. This year, IEEEXtreme 8.0 was holding on Saturday October 19th 2019 at 00:00:00 UTC or 03:00:00 (Jordanian time) to Sunday October 20th 2019 at 00:00:00 UTC or 03:00:00 (Jordanian time). The registration for this competition was closed on October 14th, where 166 Jordanian students registered in this competition within 67 teams.

The IEEEXtreme programming competition was created to provide IEEE student members with a new and interesting activity, give IEEE student members a challenge to embrace team work and an important skill to develop for career success, increase the number of IEEE student activities with a focus on the computer, programming and information technology fields and other benefits include providing students in the universities with ways to get IEEE student members involved in local activity in a fun and engaging way.

In Jordan, 166 students within 67 teams registered in this competition from the all Jordanian universities. The registered students are from Jordan University of Science and Technology, University of Jordan, Hashemite University, Yarmouk University, Philadelphia University, German Jordanian University, Al-Zaytoonah University Of Jordan, Al-Balqa Applied University, Princess Sumaya University, Applied Science University and Tafila Technical University. In the competition, students within groups were distributed in the faculty of CIT labs at JUST, where six innovative labs and supported rooms were installed and prepared for this competition.

For the first time, the IEEEXtreme-Jordan received this high number of participants; exactly 166 students from Jordanian universities. In the last year contest, for example, approximately 140 students registered for this event. JUST was hosting this event for the second time, where the last time was in October 2014. The members of the CIT Faculty put tremendous efforts in organizing and planning this event. From their entrance to JUST Campus, the participants were fully guided and supported.
