Abstract:
Cloud
computing (CC) is a computing model that enables the customers to
access, when needed, a shared pool of resources (e.g., storage, network,
servers, etc.) through the internet with a pay-per-use pricing model.
Different service models are employed including the
Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) model, in which the costumers request a
certain set of resouces and the cloud service provides them in the form
of a virtual machine (VM). Where to “place” VMs, how to “excute” them
and whether there is a need to “move/migrate” them are important
decisions that affect the overall power consumption in the hosting data
center and the utilization of its resources. This study aims to optimize
energy efficiency and resource utilization in cloud data centers by
applying a VM consolidation technique. VM consolidation is a technique
of migrating and consolidating the VMs in order to reduce the number of
active physical machines and increase the utilization of these machines.
Therefore, this study presents a system for resource monitoring,
planning, and optimizing depending on Logistic Regression (LR). In
addition, a new algorithm is proposed for host overloading detection,
which have been evaluated on a dynamic workload using the CloudSim tool,
whereas the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm
outperforms the rest of the known algorithms.
