     The Primary Examination for the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeon (FRACDS)

 In conjunction with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS), The Faculty of Dentistry – Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is honored to announce the inaugural Primary Examination of the Fellowship of the RACDS / General Stream to be held in Jordan University of Science and Technology on the following dates:

  • The written examination: 26-28/11/2012
  • The viva examination: 03-10/12/2012

 Successful completion of the Primary Examination of the RACDS / General Stream in JUST leads to eligibility to present for the Final Examination in Sydney - Australia

 

A Candidate who successfully completes the Final Examination will be admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS-General Stream)

 Advantages of the FRACDS

  • Fellows of the College have accomplished a remarkable achievement in demonstrating their scientific knowledge and advanced clinical skills through assessment or examination by their peers. A collegial experience includes a number of both tangible and intangible benefits and advantages.
  • The Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (or even the candidate who have successfully completed the Primary Examination) is admitted globally as a highly qualified dentist. This admission may determine entry into postgraduate clinical or academic programs in many of the reputable academic institutions, hospitals and research centers all over the world.
  • The Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons is invited to actively participate in the valued networking and continuing professional development opportunities of the RACDS' regional scientific days and the biennial convocations and international conferences. The Fellow is also invited to participate in different international workshops and seminars in different fields of dentistry both inside and outside Australia.

Enrollment into the College and Registration for Examinations

 

  • Candidates wishing to register for College Examinations must enroll and pay the enrollment fees.
  • Enrollment is valid for a maximum of 6 years during which a candidate should register for the Primary Examination and/or the Final Examination.
  • To register for either the Primary Examination or the Final Examination, a candidate should provide evidence from a registering authority that he/she is entitled to practice dentistry.
  • It is usually preferred that a candidate register for the Primary Examination after 1-3 years have passed since he/she has been granted a Bachelor degree in Dental Science (or equivalent)
  • Candidates wishing to register for the Final Examination must produce evidence of
    • having passed or been exempted from the Primary Examinations, and
    • having completed a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a dentist, and
    • having spent a minimum of 3 years after having been granted a dental degree.
  • Non-dentists may be eligible to enroll into the College and register for the examinations.

 

Exemption from the Primary Examination

 

  • Exemption from the Primary Examination may be allowed to candidates who produce evidence of having successfully completed the primary examination for fellowship in the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the
    • Royal College of Surgeons of England
    • Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
    • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
    • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (The Primary Examinations are also held at JUST)
  • Exemption from the Primary Examination may also be allowed to candidates who provide evidence of successful completion of a full-time supervised program of advanced training of a minimum of 3 years duration leading to a Masters degree or its equivalent.

 

Admission to Fellowship in the General Stream

  • Following successful completion of the Primary and Final Examinations, candidates become eligible to apply to the RACDS Council for admission to Fellowship.

 

Orientations courses, workshops and examination materials

 The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons holds an orientation course for the Primary Examination and a workshop for the Final Examination.

  • During the orientation course, candidates are instructed in the main direction of development in the basic sciences.
  • Both the course and workshop are held in Sydney on annual level.
  • CD-ROMs for the preparation for the Examinations are sold by the College.
  • Suitable text can be found in the Reading List which is published with the Guide for Study for the Primary Examination and can be downloaded for free from the RACDS’ website.

Applicants wishing to sit for or to be exempted from the Primary Examination and/or wishing to join the Orientation Course or the Final Examination Workshop are advised to contact the Deanship of the Faculty of Dentistry at +962 2 720 1000 ext. 23570 or contact the Director of the RACDS' Primary Examination / JUST: Dr Ashraf Shaweesh on ashrafis@just.edu.jo to register their names. Applicants should bring the following documents on enrolment and registration:

 

·               The filled and signed relevant application form (can be downloaded from the link: http://www.racds.org/RACDS/RACDS_Home/QuickLinks/Forms/RACDS_Content/Forms/All_Forms.aspx?hkey=a24040c5-ea43-4663-b159-f16646726503 )

·               Two recent photographs

·               CV (in English)

·               A photocopy of passport

·               Evidence from a registering authority (Ministry of Health or equivalent) that they are entitled to practice dentistry. (Evidence should be in English or Translated into English and accredited by the registering authority)

·               Applicants wishing to be exempted from the Primary Examination should provide the appropriate evidence (see Exemptions from the Primary Examination.

·               After filling the PAYMENT section on the relevant application form, fees are either paid by credit card or by a cheque/ money order/ bank draft made payable to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and drawn in Australian Dollars on an Australian Bank.
