This course discusses the presentation, investigations and management of oral lesions of viral, bacterial, and fungal etiology. Students will acquire basic knowledge of the range of manifestations of mucocutaneous , salivary glands and systemic diseases. The course topics also cover a list of laboratory investigations used in the diagnosis of oral diseases. Tied to the lectures topics, are seminars where students get engaged in group discussions applying acquired knowledge to different clinical scenarios of patients with oral lesions and conditions. Students will be guided as to how to systematically approach the collection of data required to achieving a list of differential diagnoses, and to how to narrow that list in order to formulate a final diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
