A graduate of Alexandria University, Egypt, in 1963 with a BSCE degree, Dr. Haddadin pursued higher engineering education in theUnited States in 1965 to earn an M.Sc degree in 1966 and a Ph.Ddegree in 1969 both from the University of Washington in Seattle. Hethen took up a job in engineering design research with the PortlandCement Association in Skokie, Illinois where he wrote the firstcomputer program to design Foundation Mats, a program in use until today.
Dr. Haddadin was asked by Jordan’s Prime Minister to return andserve his country. He abided and was a senior founding member ofthe Royal Scientific Society and of the College of Engineering at theUniversity of Jordan. He served as Senior Vice President of the JordanValley Authority for nine years before he assumed the position of itsChairman and CEO for five years. The integrated development of theJordan Rift Valley owes much of its achievements to Dr. Haddadin.
He worked as a private consultant between 1988 and 1996. In thatcapacity he was called by Jordan’s leadership to join the Jordandelegations to the Middle East Peace Process. He headed the Jordandelegation to the Water Resources Working Group of themultilaterals and was one of three members who drafted andnegotiated Jordan’s peace treaty with Israel. He was the keyJordanian negotiator for water and for the environment and borders.
Dr. Haddadin served as Minister of Water and Irrigation 1997-1998during which he laid down Jordan’s Water Strategy and authored fivewater policy papers for Jordan. His tenure ended before he could write the sixth policy paper on green water.
He was recalled to serve the Government in October 2011 asChairman and CEO of Mawared, an institution engaged in urbandevelopment, and as a Government Representative on the JordanPhosphate Mines Company in March 2012 from where he chairedand also became CEO of its daughter and associated companies.. Hewas selected to be a member of the Board of Trustees of the BalqaApplied University in 2014, and as Chairman of the Board of Trusteesof the Jordan University for Science and Technology in 2018.Haddadin was appointed by His Majesty the King as member of theSenate (Upper House of Parliament) for the period 2018-2022.
Dr. Haddadin is an author of many professional articles published ininternational journals, and is author and co-author of six booksalready on the market. He was awarded two international awards forexcellence: one by the American Society of Civil Engineers for thebest research paper in 1972, and the other by the InternationalWater Resources Association for the best research paper in 2001
