Jordan University of Science and Technology Organizes Train-the-Trainers Workshop on Green Hydrogen Education under the EU-Funded “Green Hydrogen Skills for Mediterranean Higher Education” Project

The Faculty of Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) organized a three-day training workshop entitled “Train-the-Trainers Workshop on Green Hydrogen Education" from 4 to 6 August 2026. The workshop was held as part of the Green Hydrogen Skills for Mediterranean Higher Education (H2SkillsMed) project, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Program, in collaboration with Yarmouk University and the Silesian University of Technology in Poland.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dorid Dalalah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who welcomed the experts and participants and emphasized the importance of capacity-building programs and international cooperation in advancing engineering education and enhancing universities' readiness to keep pace with global developments in sustainable energy.

The opening was followed by welcoming remarks from Prof. Ayman Ababneh, the project coordinator at JUST, who highlighted the importance of this initiative in supporting universities' efforts to develop modern educational programs in the field of green hydrogen. He noted that the global transition toward clean energy depends not only on the development of technologies and infrastructure, but also on preparing qualified academic staff capable of educating engineers equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies needed to contribute effectively to the emerging hydrogen economy. He also welcomed the experts from the Silesian University of Technology and participants from partner universities and institutions, stressing the importance of international academic partnerships in advancing engineering education and strengthening scientific research and innovation.

The workshop aimed to build and strengthen the capacities of faculty members, laboratory supervisors, technical staff, and academic program and curriculum coordinators in designing and delivering modern and sustainable educational programs in green hydrogen. This was achieved through the application of contemporary engineering education approaches, competency-based curriculum development, enhanced laboratory safety and risk-management practices, and the integration of artificial intelligence and digital tools into teaching and learning.

Academics, laboratory supervisors, technical staff, program and curriculum coordinators, and department chairs from several Jordanian universities participated in the workshop. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, exploring modern practices in engineering and green hydrogen education, and discussing ways to adapt these practices to the needs of academic programs and the available university infrastructure.

The three-day scientific program featured a series of interactive and practical sessions. The first day focused on modern engineering education and green hydrogen fundamentals, including the transition from traditional teaching to student-centered learning, the changing role of university educators, assessment of engineering competencies, and green hydrogen production and laboratory systems. The second day was devoted to laboratory safety, hazard identification and risk assessment, and problem-, project-, and case-based learning. The third day addressed curriculum and modular teaching development, teaching and learning in the era of artificial intelligence, hands-on and team-based learning, digital tools, simulations, and virtual laboratories.

The program also included case studies, practical exercises, group activities, risk-assessment exercises, and the development of teaching materials using artificial intelligence, in addition to final presentations delivered by the participants. These activities reinforced the practical and interactive nature of the workshop and helped bridge theoretical concepts with educational and laboratory applications.

The workshop sessions were delivered by Dr. Anna Kiljan and Dr. Piotr Sakiewicz from the Silesian University of Technology. They presented recent trends in engineering education, competency-based teaching and assessment approaches, and methods for integrating green hydrogen topics into academic courses and programs. They also addressed laboratory safety, hazard identification and risk management, project- and case-based learning, and the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in education.

The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to develop educational concepts and activities that can be implemented within their institutions, combining technical knowledge, laboratory practice, safety, teamwork, problem-solving, and digital learning. These outcomes are expected to strengthen universities' capacity to provide modern engineering education that responds to the future needs of the green hydrogen sector.

The workshop forms part of the project's broader efforts to enhance the capacities of partner universities across the Mediterranean region, develop curricula and academic programs related to green hydrogen, strengthen faculty competencies and laboratory capabilities, and establish sustainable frameworks for governance, quality assurance, and educational program development. These efforts contribute to preparing a new generation of qualified engineers capable of supporting the transition toward clean energy and advancing the sustainable development goals.
