Jordan University of Science and Technology signs a Cooperation Agreement with the International Research & Exchanges Board
May 29 /// Jordan University of Science and Technology and the International Research and Exchange Board (IREX) signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreement to manage the Higher Education for Growth and Innovation (HEIG) project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The memorandum was signed by a representative of the University President, Prof. Khalid El-Salem, the Vice President, Prof. Muna Abu-Dalo, and from IREX, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the HEIG Project Manager.
The memorandum included coordination in the management of the Higher Education for Growth and Innovation (HEIG) project, which will take place through the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects and in coordination with the College of Agriculture, and will extend for five years.
Abu-Dalo stressed the university’s commitment to the sustainable development goals in its strategy, explaining that the university is constantly keen to develop basic functions and form more influential partnerships with the private sector to create more job opportunities for its graduates.
In turn, Al-Abdullah praised the role played by Jordan University of Science and Technology as a primary partner of the Higher Education Institution (HEI) for the first session, and its pioneering role in focusing on the sustainable agricultural food security sector, indicating the goal of the project, which is to enhance the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) as pivotal entities. Within the economic ecosystem and workforce system, and its keenness to provide quality, market-related education and strengthen the innovation ecosystem through influential applied research.
It is noteworthy that the Higher Education for Innovation and Growth (HEIG) project is a five-year initiative, initially focusing on the sustainable agricultural food security sector, which uses an interconnected approach to link water, energy, food and ecosystems. This initiative includes all relevant disciplines and departments, which will go beyond just agricultural colleges to include broad academic engagement in learning, research and innovation.
