Prince Mired Sponsors the Launch of the Strategy for Integrating People with Disabilities
His Highness Prince Mired bin Raad, Chief Secretary and President of the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, sponsored the conference for launching the strategy of integrating persons with disabilities launched by the University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, “Towards a Society security".
In his speech at the conference, His Highness stressed the importance of the strategy because it represents a necessary step in partnership between the university and the council, stressing the importance of working towards enhancing the access of people with disabilities to higher education services, within environments free of physical obstacles and possessing civilized behaviors in communicating and interacting with people with disabilities.
His Highness said that the plan is a national precedent that educational institutions should emulate, stressing the need to work on a road map and a clear plan of action that shows the goals, activities, and specific time frames for each goal and activity.
For his part, the President of the University, Prof. Khalid El-Salem, confirmed that the strategic plan related to the integration of persons with disabilities into the university came within its direction towards achieving the concept of (an inclusive university community), in line with what was stated in the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was indicated by the Royal Decree, and in accordance with the directives of Supreme Council.
He added that the progress of nations lies in their ability to integrate people with disabilities into the national societal fabric and provide them with the necessary care, empowerment, and support, pointing out that the Jordanian constitution came to deal with this segment of the people of one society in a way that guarantees them their rights, which has become a duty for all national institutions. In general, and educational ones in particular, and improving the level of services provided to them through the rehabilitation of various facilities.
The conference included a presentation on the university’s achievements in integrating persons with disabilities and rehabilitating the infrastructure to receive them, and discussion sessions on the integration of persons with disabilities into higher education institutions.
