The Parliamentary Education and Higher Education Committee, chaired by MP Ibrahim Al-Qaraleh, visited Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) on Wednesday to discuss the state of higher education in Jordan and explore key challenges facing public universities and opportunities for their continued development.

The committee met with JUST President Prof. Khaled El-Salem, along with the university's vice presidents and deans. The delegation included MPs Feryal Bani Salman, Ibrahim Al-Humaidi, Ibrahim Nseir, Salem Abu Dawla, and Bassem Al-Rawabdeh.

Al-Qaraleh praised JUST as a leading national institution in higher education, highlighting its academic and research excellence and its distinguished reputation at the local, regional, and international levels. He commended the university's high-quality academic programs, accomplished faculty, and commitment to keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements. He also recognized its efforts to enhance institutional sustainability through research initiatives, strategic partnerships, grants, and externally funded programs.

During the meeting, El-Salem presented the university's key performance indicators and major achievements over recent years. He noted that JUST continues to advance a strategic vision aligned with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals by strengthening academic competitiveness, fostering research and innovation, and expanding partnerships with both the public and private sectors.

El-Salem emphasized the university's ongoing efforts to integrate information technology and digital transformation across all academic disciplines, equipping graduates with the technical expertise and knowledge required to meet the demands of the future labor market.

He also highlighted the introduction of innovative academic programs in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, aviation and drone engineering, energy, and applied cosmetology, among other disciplines designed to address future workforce needs. In addition, he noted that JUST continues to maintain a strong research profile through high publication rates and an extensive network of international research collaborations.

Committee members commended the university's pioneering role in advancing higher education and scientific research in Jordan and reaffirmed their support for its efforts to develop modern academic programs and future-oriented specializations that align with labor market demands and ongoing digital transformation
