The Language Center at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), in collaboration with the HRH Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Club for the Deaf in Irbid, organized a specialized workshop titled: “Basics of Sign Language for the Deaf"

The Language Center at JUST hosted a training workshop titled “Basics of Learning Sign Language for the Deaf," as part of the university's continuous efforts to engage with and support the deaf community. This initiative aims to foster effective communication and enhance mutual understanding within the university environment.

Prof. Mohammad Ali Ibnian, Director of the Language Center, underscored the university's deep commitment to supporting its deaf students, currently numbering about 85. He emphasized that this workshop represents a pivotal step in the university's inclusive initiatives, setting the stage for future workshops and specialized sign language courses. These efforts are intended to improve services for the deaf community, breaking down barriers and addressing the challenges they face within the academic setting.

The workshop was conducted by sign language specialist Mr. Yousef Sobhi Al-Madhoun and interpreter Ms. Rasha Turki Bani Hani, representing the HRH Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Club for the Deaf. The training focused on teaching essential sign language skills to enhance communication with the deaf, promote understanding, and improve the overall quality of interaction. This groundbreaking initiative is considered a pioneering effort, adding to the many achievements of JUST in promoting inclusivity.

Participants included staff members from the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Library Unit, and the Admissions and Registration Unit.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Ibnian presented certificates of appreciation to Mr. Al-Madhoun and Ms. Bani Hani for their outstanding contributions. He also extended gratitude to the participants, who expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for being part of this unique and impactful experience.
