Awareness Activities During Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week at Jordan University of Science and Technology
April 5 – The Jordan University of Science and Technology, represented by the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, hosted activities marking the Global Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week. The event was organized under the supervision of Respiratory Therapy students (Rouh Cohort). The event was inaugurated by the Vice President of the University, Prof. Bashir Khasawneh, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Saleem Bani Hani, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Nihaya Al-Shiyab, the Head of the Department of Allied Medical Sciences, Dr. Ehab Khasawneh, the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences and event coordinator, Dr. Alaa Ashour, along with several faculty members and students.
Prof. Khasawneh emphasized that the University places significant importance on specialized health disciplines, particularly Respiratory Therapy, due to its pivotal role in supporting the healthcare system. He noted that such activities contribute to bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application and enhance students’ role in community service and health awareness.
The event included a variety of educational and awareness activities, most notably the distribution of informational materials and the provision of specialized knowledge on respiratory diseases and methods of prevention. It also highlighted the importance of pulmonary rehabilitation programs in improving patients’ quality of life. In addition, the Smoking Cessation Clinic from the Faculty of Nursing participated by offering guidance and advice on the risks of smoking and strategies for quitting.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Prof. Saleem Bani-Hani, stated that the Faculty continues to support activities that enhance students’ skills and professional readiness. He stressed that Respiratory Therapy is a vital specialty that plays a key role in managing respiratory diseases and improving patients’ quality of life, as well as promoting public health awareness.
With active participation, Respiratory Therapy students played a central role in organizing and implementing the week’s activities. They were responsible for preparing and delivering educational materials, supervising information dissemination to visitors, and explaining key concepts related to respiratory diseases, prevention methods, and pulmonary rehabilitation exercises. This experience reflected their academic competence and their ability to serve the community in a practical and effective manner.
