Jordan University of Science and Technology Participates in the Launch of a National Study on the Digital Skills Supply and Demand Gap in the ICT Sector

The Digital Skills Association launched the 2025 National Digital Skills Study titled “Analysis of the Supply and Demand Gap for Digital Skills in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector in Jordan." The launch took place during a ceremony held under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Eng. Sami Smeirat, with the participation of the Minister of Labor, Khaled Al-Bakkar; the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzah; and the President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Prof.  Khaled El-Salem. The event was also attended by several university presidents, representatives of the private sector, and donor organizations.

The study was conducted by the Association as part of the Youth, Technology, and Jobs Project at the Ministry, aiming to reflect the rapid changes in digital labor market requirements. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the skills needed in the ICT sector and assesses the extent to which higher education outputs align with these market demands.

This study, conducted every two years, seeks to promote coordination among national stakeholders to enhance digital competitiveness and equip Jordanian youth with future-ready skills.

During the ceremony, Minister Smeirat emphasized that the study represents a key milestone in Jordan's economic modernization process. He noted that developing digital skills has become a critical driver of economic growth and a cornerstone for creating quality employment opportunities for young people. He stressed the importance of strengthening integration between education, training, and the private sector to ensure alignment between educational outcomes and the evolving needs of the labor market.

He added that the true value of the study lies in transforming its recommendations into actionable steps and measurable outcomes, underscoring that building a strong national digital skills ecosystem requires collaborative efforts among universities, training institutions, the private sector, and government entities.

For his part, Prof.  El-Salem stated that the university's participation in launching this national study aligns with its strategic vision of aligning higher education outcomes with the rapid transformations in the digital labor market. He highlighted the university's continuous efforts to update its curricula and academic programs in ICT fields, as well as to enhance students' practical and innovative skills.

He further noted that the study serves as a valuable reference for university decision-makers and contributes to strengthening effective partnerships with the private sector, thereby enhancing graduates' employability and supporting the national economy with competencies capable of competing in the digital economy at the local and regional levels.
